HTC Looking to Tap into US$150 Price Point Market
January 20, 2016

HTC said that it sold over two million smartphones in Taiwan last year, witnessing a better-than-expected growth of 20% year on year, reported the Economic Daily News on January 20. Instead of saturating the market with a slew of models, HTC's strategy for 2016 is to extend the life cycle of its products in different price point markets. The company will roll out fewer smartphone models this year, but will focus on fine-tuning their designs, qualities, and cost-performance ratios. Meanwhile, HTC also plans to explore lower price point for the first time this year by selling 4G smartphones priced under NT$5,000 (US$150; US$1=NT$33.4), in view of the growing demand for low-cost models.
